We began and ended our journey in London. Full of museums and plays and other interesting things, we had far too few days in this awesome city.
Arriving jet-lagged, we neophyte travellers accepted an offer of a B&B located in Earl's Court from a tout at the airport. The location was excellent, but the room featured one of the lumpiest mattresses we've ever encountered and breakfast consisted of a roll and coffee. We soon found tasty meat pasties at a nearby bakery and managed not to get runover by traffic operating on the wrong side of the street.
We quickly fell in love with the British Museum and could have spent all of our days inside the museum followed by nights attending plays. One of our favorite plays was an RSC performance of Red Noses, a jolly romp through plague-stricken areas of 14th century France. Little did we know we'd be facing our own world-wide pandemic some 35 years later.
We also managed to catch performances of the hilarious Noises Off, long-running Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap, cerebral Jumpers, and the dissapointing and over-hyped Starlight Express.
This trip was a few years before we learned about the
World Heritage List, but we did manage
to tick off a few of the Bristish sites including
Westminster Abbey,
The Tower of London, and
Canterbury Cathedral.
