Dog Mushing in Fairbanks

We had two great dog sled outings while visiting Fairbanks for a week in March. We first took a wonderful 2 hour trip along the Tanana River with John Hoegberg of Alaskan Husky and Horse Adventures. A couple days later we did a more indepth mushing school with Elise Miller at Sun Dog Express.

Fairbanks, Alaska

Our nights in Fairbanks were spent watching for Northern Lights and our days were filled enjoying the warm spring weather (highs up to 10oF and lows around -10oF). We found a few geocaches, enjoyed walks in Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge, had many good meals at local restaurants, took in the exhibits at the Museum of the North and visited the Fairbanks curling club.

World Ice Art Championships 2014

We spent a cold night enjoying the sculptures from the World Ice Art Championships. The single-block classic had finished, but some of the multi-block sculptures were still in progress. You can buy an all day pass that lets you re-visit at night when the ice is lit by colored lights. There are fun ice carvings for the kids (and young-at-heart) to play on and plenty to look at until you're a frozen icicle yourself.
